DALECHAMPS. (Jacques). HISTOIRE GENERALE DES PLANTES containing XVIII books equally divided into two volumes. Taken from the Latin copy of the Library of Me. Jacques Dalechamp, then made French by Me. Jean des Moulins, very famous doctor. Lyon, P. Borde, L. Arnaud Cl. Rigaud, 1653. 2 volumes in folio of [8]-960-[36] and [120]-758-[22] pages, brown calfskin, spine ribbed (period binding). A formidable collection of all the botanical knowledge of the time by Dalechamps (1513-1588), physician, botanist and naturalist born in Caen. His illustration consists of more than 2700 woodcuts of plants, some of them executed from natural specimens sent to the author by Mathias de Lobel, sometimes with comments by Jean Bauhin. In fine, indexes in Latin, Greek, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, Czech and English and 2 interesting tables: one listing remedies classified by body part and the other of plants for cosmetic use. Numerous foxing and light rings, spine rebacked, restorations on the boards, wetness and several pages foxed and repaired. Old mention on the title " De la pharmacie du couvent de la Guillotière " and armorial stamp Ex-bibliotheca J. Richard D.M., physician and bibliophile from Lyon (1744-1812).
