History / Observations:
The original Gibson Melody Maker was first launched in 1959 and discontinued in 1971. Its purpose was to be an even cheaper alternative to the Gibson Les Paul Junior. All the electronics, from the small Fender-style single-coil pickups to the jack cable, are assembled on the pickguard, a wraparound bridge tailpiece. The 77/80 models were upgraded with embossed pickups, tune o' matic and stop bar. There were LP, DC and SG shapes. JOAN JETT, among others, could be seen using the model.
A very rare guitar for this period, very light, powerful and comfortable.
