Roger DERIEUX (1922-2015) - Lot 138
Roger DERIEUX (1922-2015) "Adagio for strings by Guillaume Lekeu", 1994 Collage, signed lower left 24x24 cm Old label on back: Galerie Jacob 28 rue Jacob 75006 PARIS (Framed) Roger Dérieux found in Denise Bernard much more than a gallerist: she was a deeply supportive friend. His Paris gallery left its mark on the 2nd half of the 20th century. In 1966, with the support of artists such as Árpád Szenes, Olivier Debré, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva and Serge Poliakoff, Denise Renard founded Galerie Jacob at 28 rue Jacob in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. She chose to show "a highly interiorized style of painting that seeks to draw the viewer into the 'space within' through the allusive language of form and color. [...] to welcome any rather secret, meditative expression in painting, without abandoning figuration"[1]. In addition to the artists mentioned above, we would also like to mention: Wolfgang Gäfgen, Janice Biala, Charles Marq, Miklos Bokor, Geneviève Asse, Véra Pagava... Denise Renard also publishes artists' books, combining poetry and illustrations. The gallery closed in 1997.
