François-Auguste RAVIER (1814-1895) - Lot 79
François-Auguste RAVIER (1814-1895) The painter's house in Morestel, garden side Oil on panel, with a trace of apocryphal signature lower right 53.5 x 35.5 cm Parquet panel Our painting, in a format quite exceptional for the artist, which underlines its importance, remains unfinished, with the sky and its expected twilight effect still to come. This panel is a rare and fascinating document of the painter's distinctive way of working. We can clearly make out the powerful, structured composition and rich, worked backgrounds, waiting for the rapid brushstroke to capture the final crackle of light at the end of the day. We would like to thank Madame Christine Boyer-Thiollier for confirming the authenticity of this painting and for the valuable information she provided.
