Orbigny (under the direction of Charles d'): - Lot 69
Orbigny (under the direction of Charles d'): Dictionnaire universel d'histoire naturelle servant de complément aux œuvres de Buffon, de Cuvier, etc. Paris, Imprimerie Martinet pour le bureau principal de l'Editeur (Frédel, Olivier). 1867-1873; 14 volumes of text in 28 paperback volumes and 3 volumes of Atlas in publisher's hardback, for a total of 31 volumes in in-8 format; The Atlas includes 326 magnificent plates on softboard, most of them carefully gouache- or watercolor-painted by hand and gummed, i.e. 38 plates more than advertised. This is the most complete edition, scientifically, and the most beautiful, above all thanks to the exceptional Atlas, since most copies have only 288 plates, as advertised. An uncut copy of the text, as issued, with its light-blue soft covers; clearly, the previous owner was only interested in the Atlas, which has been handled a little and whose first volume is damaged in the cardboard, whereas the plates are impeccable. Rare paperback in this condition and also complete. Expert : Jacques Van Eecloo
