Jean FUSARO (Born in 1925) - Lot 42
Jean FUSARO (Born in 1925) "Rue des Saules in Montmartre". 1969 Oil on canvas, signed lower right, countersigned, dated and titled on the back 54x73 cm (Framed) It is later that Jean Fusaro paints Paris, so much he will stay frequently in the capital... Here he is installed at the foot of the Montmartre hill where others have preceded him and not the least. La Bonne franquette, is the unavoidable meeting place in capital letters, for gastronomes and artists, such as Pissarro, Sisley, Cézanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, Monet, Zola... Jean Fusaro offers a broad vision of the renowned establishment. He places it within a perimeter that imposes the colours of the façade. The grandiose format indicates his "free" appetite for the vibrant and generous tones, (which still exist) and which masterfully sign the very historic address... Bernard Gouttenoire The restaurant A la bonne franquette, Beaujolais specialties is located on rue des Saules in Montmartre, at the top of the hill. In 1886 Van Gogh represented the establishment in his famous painting "La guinguette", kept in the Musée d'Orsay. As for Fusaro, he painted this establishment a second time, ten years later, in 1979. We would like to thank Jean Fusaro who personally authenticated this work as being the first version, painted when he was accompanied by his Lyon painter friends in Paris, including Jacques Poncet. This work was exhibited at the Tamenaga Gallery in Tokyo in 1969 and appears in its exhibition catalogue.
