Albert VOISIN known as VANBER (1905-1994) Village square, Drôme Gouache on paper, signed lower right. 32,5x50 cm Born in 1905 in Lestre (Manche), Albert Voisin, known as "Vanber", began his training as a painter in 1922 in Fernand Cormon's studio in Paris. Throughout the 1930s, he frequented Parisian artistic circles and trained his eye on the contemporary trends in vogue. Alongside Delaunay, Robert and Sonia, as well as André Lhote and Albert Gleizes, he became familiar with a cubism that was still in vogue, evolving towards more colourful forms, imbued with lyricism, and sometimes even verging on abstraction. These influences would follow him throughout his life, even in the Drôme, the painter's heartland, where he settled permanently in 1956, in the village of Crest. From then on, landscapes and views of the surrounding villages were an essential part of his work.
