Philippe VARILLON (Born in 1954) - Lot 235
Philippe VARILLON (Born in 1954) "White Rectangles". 2015 Gouache on cardboard, signed lower right and titled on the back. 28x21 cm Philippe Varillon's career is astonishing, this architect who was -among others- from 1984 to 87, one of the collaborators of Franck O'Ghery (1927), the famous builder of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Philippe Varillon has exhibited in Minneapolis (USA), Venice, Florence (Italy) and Lyon (l'Oeil Ecoute). His speech proposed portraits of imaginary cities. The hazards of life got the better of him, hence his return to the "starting point". While wanting to keep his creative freedom, he is truly today, an authentic "revelation", since he has resettled permanently in Lyon, where he now has collectors including Yves Revol (Clasquin international, founder of the Lyinc club) and the silk manufacturer of the rue Auguste Comte, Henri Germain. His thematic paintings - in particular the beautiful series we are presenting, "Cassiopeia's children" - are made of pure colours with delicious interlacing, and coloured curves that reinforce the constructivist and geometrical aspect of this born architect.
