Claudette ESPALLERGUES (1936-2008) "Joseph" butler. Sculpture in polychrome paper mache 37x30x17 cm at sight We can say that Claudette Espallergues came to singular art thanks to her son Luco, who has always practiced a painting that can be called "shifted". Thus she slipped into the skin of everyday characters. Her atypical (friendly) reels were born, which she made terribly common, to the point of creating a whole familiar world of enchanting and colourful pasteboard. Thus were born pairs, couples in the city as on stage. There are the notables, suit and tie and hat with veils that impose themselves, the thugs (the pimp and his girl-girl), the butcher's boy and his cashier, the priest and his maid (eternal duet, on the rows of the stoup).... in short, the people of real life, at a time when rural France resembled urban France and its flamboyant parade... just like the July bicycle races and their crowded parade of revellers...
