Alain ROLL (Born in 1938) "Reflections in a port". 1995 Oil on canvas, signed on the right, titled and dated on the back. 92x73 cm (The booklet of the 1997 exhibition dedicated to Alain Roll at the Forum des Halles in Paris is attached, painting reproduced) Alain Roll, whose real name is Alain Ribeyrolles, lives and works in Paris. He is self-taught and proud of it. He attended the circle around the daughter (art teacher) of Jeanne Bardey, in Mornant, Rodin's mistress. Having lived in Lyon, he has always exhibited in his native city, notably at Denise Mermillon's (Saint-Georges gallery) and every year, faithfully, at the Salon du Sud-Est. Everyone recognizes in him a powerful colorist and he gives to figuration a very particular style, made of pieces of life, of trees of which he gives only the essence, of some snippets of roses with petals jerked by extracts which keep only the essential, the red perfume... Sometimes they are characters in subjects borrowed from Nicolas De Staël (like the footballers, his hockey players). He has an effective way of reducing the gestures of the scene to their most beautiful expressions... BG
