Jim LEON (1938-2002) Untitled. 1995 Gouache on paper, signed and dated lower right 22,5x30 cm at sight (framed under glass : 44x51 cm approx.) Incredible exploit to have brought out two beautiful gouaches of the late Jim Léon (1938-2002). Universal and major painter, who failed on the Lyon planet. Would Jim have been the equal of the greatest names of "underground London" (John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Francis Bacon, or David Hockney...)? He probably had the means. At the time he was collaborating with OZ magazine. When he arrived in Lyon, supported by the Lyon gallery that counts, l'Oeil Ecoute, run by Maurice and Janine Bressy, then later by Jacques Verrière, and now by Alain Dettinger, he designed the poster for the first concert of his friends Pink Floyd, in France at the Théâtre de Huitième in Lyon, in 1968. Then, he created (in 1970) at the request of the filmmaker Jacques Demy, the decor for the film Peau d'âne. Simon Casimir Wilson, his great lifelong friend, whom he met in Lyon before becoming curator at the Tate Gallery in London, remembers the excellence of his always "borderline" painting... An immense and talented painter, his psychedelic universe - trivial and desperate - offers only the vision of a world in which a ceaseless whirlwind rushes by, the very one that carried him away... which these two exceptional pieces tend to demonstrate masterfully...
