Joseph PAGNON (1824-1848) Monks burying... - Lot 73 - Artenchères
Joseph PAGNON (1824-1848) Monks burying one of their own in an oriental landscape Oil on canvas 45 x 60 cm "Joseph PAGNON was born in Saint-Uze in 1824. His mother was the daughter of Joseph Marie Revol, a pottery manufacturer. He grew up in Lyon where he studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He continued his apprenticeship in Paris with the Flandrin brothers, a renowned painter from Lyon. He rubbed shoulders with Ingres. He was a young man with a real talent, a sensitivity on the skin, a melancholic soul. He was a romantic with time. He was promised a bright future in painting... But tuberculosis mowed him down in his youth." Source : A la rencontre du passé, L'exposition Joseph Pagnon, directed by Corinne DEYGAS.
