A fine auction specializing in 20th-century ceramics, mainly from the 1950s to the present day.
The sale is conceived as a journey through France and even Europe.
The first part of the sale will be devoted to the South of France, in particular Vallauris.
Europe will then be represented by works from Portugal, Belgium and Denmark.
This will be followed by a tour of France's regions, including Savoie, Brittany, Burgundy, the Loire and finally Cher.
Lots 92 to 130 all come from the same source: Atelier Saint-Méd'art.
André and Monique MATHIAU's Atelier Saint-Méd'art in Bourges has been instrumental in promoting several local talents. First and foremost, that of André, a painter whose work was dispersed by the Artenchères auction house in 2020. It was also a place of friendly and artistic encounters between the Mathiau couple and the potters of La Borne, regularly exhibited in the early 2000s: Eric Astoul, François Maréchal, Hugh West, Geneviève Gay, Agnès Chapelet, Coralie Courbet... André Mathiau himself happily tried his hand at ceramics, firing extensively in Pierre Mestre's kilns between 1965 and 1970. Thanks to them, we now have an interesting collection of some 50 La borne ceramics, assembled over more than 40 years through purchases and donations.
