This unique and unprecedented session consists of two collections, patiently assembled over more than thirty years and almost exclusively devoted to the rediscovery and enhancement of an extremely rich and varied regional heritage, around painting and ceramics.

The departments of the Drôme and the Ardèche and the north of the Rhone valley, on the borders of the Dauphiné and Provence, have shone with the presence of fertile artistic centers, often inspired by popular arts and local traditions.

Quiet and isolated geographical entities, with sumptuous landscapes and contrasting climates, these territories have attracted many beautiful personalities, refugees, exiles fleeing Nazism, or precursors of a return to nature, constituting a unique and still poorly known land of creativity, which it is delightful to rediscover.

The figure of André Lhote in Mirmande, at the origin of a real painting academy, influences many artists from Pierre Palué to Vanber to the wonderful young girls, Marcelle Rivier and Blanche Husek. In 1927, Albert Gleizes initiated Moly-Sabata, a true artistic community in Sablons, on the banks of the Rhône. Alba-la-Romaine in the Ardèche, concentrates many creators from all walks of life, including the American painter Theodore Appleby. Willy Eisenschitz, a Jew born in Austria, enchants the area around Dieulefit with his watercolors.

Other unique figures such as the watercolorist Louis Ageron in Valence, the fascinating Pierre Charbonnier in La Roche-de-Glun, the sunny Mena Loopuyt in Cliousclat, the very committed Jean Saussac in Antraigues or the tumultuous André Auclair in Saint-Thomé complete an extraordinarily rich panel.

As for the decorative arts, ceramics radiates from the old centers of Cliousclat, Dieulefit or Le Poët-Laval, which are regenerated by the contribution of creators from outside, the Orleanian Étienne Noël, pioneer of art ceramics at the beginning of the 1920's in Dieulefit, or the Parisian Jacques Pouchain after the Second World War in Le Poët-Laval, without forgetting the Australian Anne Dangar in Moly-Sabata.

Still very much alive today, there are many ceramists in the Drôme, from Xavier Duroselle, to Michel Wolfahrt to the veteran Jacques Ibarra.

Glassmaking is not left out with Claude and Nicolas Morin, who through their lineage express the synthesis of local values, between tradition and modernity.
