Jacques TRUPHÉMUS (1922-2017). "La servante... - Lot 224 - Artenchères
Jacques TRUPHÉMUS (1922-2017). "La servante accoudée, café de nuit". Oil on canvas board, signed lower right and dated 86. Countersigned, dated and titled on the reverse on a label. 53,5 x 64,5 cm (framed). This painting is to be compared to the one dated 1985 in orange tones, presented on page 53 of the book "Jacques Truphémus" by Yves Bonnefoy and Denis Lafay. Usually, harmonies of pink are rare in the work of the most recognized painter from Lyon, Jacques Truphémus, so much so that they deserve to be highlighted. This painting -certainly dear to his master Pierre Bonnard- is indeed out of the range of colored greys, which have made -in turn- their reputation. But what is this painting made of? Of characters obviously made in the pictorial way of the painter. One recognizes, wearing his legendary cap, Jacques Truphémus himself, sitting at the usual bistro, reflecting in the middle of characters having a snack. The woman who begins the scene poses, unreal, in a brasserie that seems unknown. A magical "pink" place from the painter's imagination that adds a dreamy and "elegant" touch to his composition. BG
