François Joseph GUIGUET (1860-1937) Portrait of Miss Rita Rodriguez. 1905 Graphite on grey paper, dated at the bottom and stamped on the back Collection Maison natale F. Guiguet, Corbelin 30,8x24,8 cm (some pinholes in the corners) Provenance: Part of the F. Guiguet estate, private collection of the Dauphiné Preparatory drawing for the portrait of Miss R.R. in the Grenoble museum (painting reproduced on page 119 of the book "Peintres lyonnais intimistes" by Hubert Thiolier. Portrait presented at the Salon de la Nationale in 1906. Anecdote related in the book: "Mademoiselle Rodriguez had indicated to Guiguet at the time of the Salon that she was going to buy the portrait. But she left for America and forgot her order, Guiguet's friends were indignant. Mrs. Le Blant wrote to Rita Rodriguez who replied that she had just married and that her marriage had "turned her head". The portrait finally remained in France and was shown at the Salon de la Société Lyonnaise des Beaux-Arts in 1908 where it was admired by the critics."
